Know what a recovery phrase does
A recovery phrase is designed to restore access to a wallet. Anyone who gets it may be able to control the assets in that wallet. It should be treated as more sensitive than a password and should not be entered into a web form or sent to another person.
Common scam stories
Scammers may say the phrase is needed for verification, a card upgrade, support, a refund, a wallet sync or a “manual payment release.” These are warning signs. A legitimate card flow can display funding instructions, but it does not require wallet-control credentials.
What to do if asked
- Stop responding and do not enter the phrase anywhere.
- Open the official site or bot yourself rather than using the sender’s link.
- Do not share screenshots that reveal a phrase or private key.
- Seek trusted wallet-security guidance if you believe the phrase was exposed.
No support representative, merchant or card issuer should ask for your wallet recovery phrase or private key.
